Four things we can do as working mothers this Summer Solstice: A Time of Renewal for Working Mothers
I’m ashamed to say that I’ve lived out of sync with nature for most of my adult life.
But more and more, I’m drawn to the power of nature.
Only in recent years have I started to acknowledge the astronomical calendar – moon phases, eclipses, solstices and equinoxes. I was oblivious to them before, but I’m beginning to understand more about the power of Mother Nature in my life and work.
It helps that my brilliant business manager Lauren is *really* into this, so we often talk about how the eight moon phases affect the different activities we do in my business.
It also helps that this stuff that could be considered ‘woo woo’ is being backed up by modern science.
As we celebrate the Summer Solstice today, I want to acknowledge this special day.
The solstices define the transitions between the seasons of the astronomical calendar and are a key part of the Earth’s orbit around the Sun.
As working mothers, our lives are often a juggling act, constantly striving to find balance between our professional responsibilities and the needs of our families.
The arrival of the Summer Solstice offers a unique opportunity for us to pause, reflect, and reconnect with ourselves and our loved ones.
This magical time of year, when the Sun reaches its zenith and is at its most potent, can serve as a powerful reminder for us.
Join me as we explore how, as working mothers, we can make the most of the Summer Solstice and harness its energy for personal growth and fulfilment.
1 – Embracing the Power of Nature: The Summer Solstice is a celebration of the longest day of the year, filled with sunlight and the energy of the natural world. Taking advantage of this energy can be really beneficial by spending time outdoors on the Summer Solstice. Maybe a walk after work. Or stargazing in the evening. Or lighting a candle (our ancestors used to light bonfires on Summer Solstice). Connecting with nature lifts our spirits and strengthens our bond with Mother Nature – and we know how powerful and wise she is!
2 – Harnessing the Power of Intention: The Summer Solstice is traditionally viewed as a time of transformation and new beginnings. Take a moment to set intentions for the coming months. Reflect on your personal and professional goals and the steps you need to take to achieve them. Consider journaling or find a way to mindfully set your intentions and connect with your inner desires. By aligning your actions with your aspirations, you can empower yourself to make changes in your life.
3 – Cultivating Work-Life Integration: Achieving work-life balance can feel like an ongoing challenge for working mothers. However, the Summer Solstice encourages us to explore a different perspective: work-life integration. Instead of striving for a perfect equilibrium between the two, aim to find synergy and harmony between your roles as a professional and a parent. Just like Mother Nature dynamically integrates summer and winter, light and dark, warmth and cold, use this month half year point to reflect on your work-life integration.
4 -Celebrating Community: The Summer Solstice has long been celebrated as a time of gathering and community. And we know how important community is for working mothers. The research shows us that authentic relationships are a fundamental part of our wellbeing – even more so than men. So this Summer Solstice, can you reach out to people that are important to you to celebrate? As the Sun reaches its highest point in the sky and nature’s energy is at its peak, take a moment to reflect on the peak moments that light up your life.
The Summer Solstice presents us with a unique opportunity for renewal and reconnection.
But it’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day busyness of life and miss reflecting and cherishing these moments.
I hope this message inspires you to harness the energy of this special time to nurture you and your loved ones and to fuel you as you enter the second half of this year.
I’d love to hear, what have been some of your peak moments from the first half of this year?
Send me a message and bask in the glory of those peak moments while the Sun is at its peak.
Happy Summer Solstice!
